(KPL) Lycée Français International de Vientiane, “Josué Hoffet,” on Oct 12 held a groundbreaking ceremony for an additional building which will be equipped with 26 classrooms to cope with the increasing number of students.

The ceremony for the US$3.7 million project was held at its headquarters in Hadxaykhao village, Vientiane Capital in the attendance of Vientiane Mayor Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mr Litou Bouapao, French Ambassador to the Lao PDR Claudine Ledoux, and relevant officials.

The new three-story building will comprise one meeting room, one computer room, one performing room, and a gymnasium. Its construction is expected to take about 15 months.

“In 2007, we had around 384 students at this school. Its reception capacity was then not greater than 400 students. At that time we asked ourselves, ‘What can the school do if the number of students continues to increase in the future?’ Now is 2016 and the future we talked about is approaching. To all people involved in this project, this is a time for celebration,” said School Director Sebastian Mathey.

“This project will become an example of cooperation between parents, teachers, students, the French government, Lao authorities and the Agency for French Education Abroad, represented by myself. We need to have strong volunteerism from all relevant sectors to accomplish the construction project,” Mr Sebastian added.
