Construction of Vientiane New World Shopping Plaza commences

Work on the construction of the Vientiane New World Shopping Plaza was officially launched at the project site on Don Chan Island in Vientiane yesterday.

The design of the Vientiane New World Shopping Plaza covers a total area of 75,000 square metres, of which 700 square metres will be used for parking to ensure future customers can always find somewhere to leave their car.

It will be built as a modern and international city shopping centre to match the economic and commercial development of Laos.

At the official launch, the Chairman of China CAMC Engineering Company Limited and General Manager of CAMCE Investment (Lao) Company Limited, Ms Luo Yan, said the shopping malls include department stores, cinemas, supermarkets, fashionable walking streets, rooftop restaurants and they provide clothing, electronics, household items and other goods in line with international standards.

The shopping plaza precinct will be composed of 101 shops, including a riverside food court with a variety of Southeast Asian food on offer, shopping streets, bars and an entertainment area.

There are also three public squares, which will offer comfortable places for shoppers to rest their tired feet but also great for parties and festival activities.

Ms Yan also confirmed that the company would do its best to build a modern shopping plaza that combines local style and international fashion.

“As project developers, we intend to make it a paradise for shopping, entertainment and food in the future and accelerate the whole ‘Vientiane New World’ project,” she said.

Construction of the shopping plaza will be finished in 2015.

Vice Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Keophilavanh Aphaylath, Counsellor of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, Mr Zhao Wenyu, Director General of the Vientiane Public Works and Transport Department, Mr Dethsongkham Thammavong, Director of Krittaphong Group Company Limited, Ms Oulathay Santikhongkha, Vice Chairman of CAMCE Investment (Lao) Company Limited, Mr Yao Bin and other guests attended the ceremony.

Mr Keophilavanh Aphaylath said the development of the shopping plaza will boost the growth of the economy in the capital as well as in the country.

“The company has a good record after building the ASEM Villas for 46 heads-of-state and prime ministers during the summit in 2012, so the construction of a new shopping plaza is another facelift project for Vientiane,” he said.

Vientiane New World is being built by CAMCE Investment (Lao) Company Limited, a subsidiary of China CAMC Engineering Company Limited, which is a large multinational company in China.

The total investment is more than US$500 million. The floor area will be more than 500,000 square metres, including a shopping mall, office buildings, hotels, serviced apartments and garden residences. Click here to get your space
