Borikhamxay kicks off logistics hub development

(KPL) Borikhamxay Governor Kongkeo Saysongkham, senior officials of relevant authorities recently participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the Borikhamxay Logistics and Customs Warehouse project in Paksan, Borikhamxay Province.

This Borikhamxay Provincial Logistics and Customs Warehouse project is very important to trade connectivity and transport in the region and in line with the government’s strategy on turning the Lao PDR into a transport and service hub for the overall benefits of the government and Borikhamxay Province, President of the Bolikhamxay Logistics Terminal Co., Ltd Chanthone Sitthixay told the ceremony.

“This project is one of four priorities of the province’s development strategy 2030. The province has several potentials and geographical advantages as it is located in the central region of the country. It is connected to the 5th Laos-Thailand Mekong Bridge spanning the Mekong between Paksan and Bungkan, Vientiane-Pakse highway project and Vientiane-Vietnam highway,” said Mr Chanthone.

Phase one of the project (26 ha) involves the development of a general warehouse zone, a cargo transfer zone, an office zone, and a commercial zone.

estimated at about 56 million dollars, phase one of the project is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2024.

Phase 2 of the project will include the upgrading of the faculties into a complex with a dry port of 110 ha and a logistic area of 200 ha.
